Imaginatively converted from the chapel of the former Ripon and York St
John College, the house comfortably offers self catering accommodation
for up to 4 people and stands
in unspoilt grounds in a semi rural setting right on the edge of Ripon's
bustling centre. We bought it as a holiday home for our own use - it was
love at first sight and we enjoyed our breaks in Ripon so much that we
set up in the Old College full time. When we needed more space we couldn't
bear to part with the house so we moved round the corner and have kept
the Old College house on as a holiday let for others to enjoy.
You will love the splendour of the Old College, which has been sensitively converted
into apartments and houses, as well as the extensive grounds with beautiful
trees, an elegant terrace and well manicured lawns. We will provide
you with a welcome pack of Yorkshire goodies to get you into the holiday mood.
Arranged over three floors it is, in the words of our granddaughter, an
'upside down' house. It has a light and spacious feel with high ceilings
and stone surround windows.
The ground floor double bedroom is light and airy with a simple and minimalist
feel. The arched chapel window with stone surrounds and beech shutters
gives views across the extensive college lawns. In the bathroom you will
have an opportunity to truly relax with tea lights and a great selection
of handmade local bath products.
Up the stairs the first floor dining area and kitchen has been fitted to
a high standard and offers plenty of space for eating and relaxing. Onwards
and upwards to the galleried mezzanine floor - a real 'wow' factor. This
room runs right across the top of the house and provides a great spacious
lounge with a very sturdy and comfortable double sofa bed. A great chance
to chill or play - there is a tv with dvds as well as a good selection
of games, books and music. Throughout the house you will find examples
of the excellent work of talented artists from the arts and craft centre
at Henshaw's Society for Blind People in nearby Knaresborough.
Outside you can wander through the mature landscaped grounds, sit on the
terrace and watch the world go by (chairs are provided for you take out)
or stroll into Ripon's charming market square, a five minute walk
away and with so much to offer.
Parking - you will have an allocated parking space and there is plenty of
additional visitor car parking space if required.
The design of the house means that it is not suitable for children under
twelve (unless babes in arms) or people with limited mobility. We don't allow pets in the house.
